Description
UK businesses can begin trading under CPTPP by 15 December 2024. CPTPP is one of the largest free trade areas in the world, worth almost 15% of global GDP. Total UK exports to CPTPP amounted to £71.3 billion, in the four quarters to the end of Q2 2024 . This session will outline the key sectors and policy provisions of CPTPP and how you can make the most of the new opportunities. We’ll also explore how the agreement complements existing Free Trade Agreements with CPTPP members, such as Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Rob Cook
Deputy Director for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) team, Department for Business and Trade (DBT)
Rob Cook is Deputy Director for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) at the UK’s Department for Business and Trade. Rob began his career in the UK Civil Service at the Department for Work and Pensions, where he worked in a range of roles, before joining the UK Mission’s to the WTO and UN in Geneva in 2017. He worked in a range of trade-related roles at the UK Mission from 2017-21, including as the UK’s Deputy Permanent Representative (Economic) to the World Trade Organization and the United Nations agencies in Geneva.
Elizabeth Thompson
Account Manager – Free Trade Agreement Utilisation Team, Department for Business and Trade (DBT)
Elizabeth joined the Department in 2021, to work on the implementation of the trade in services provisions of our FTAs, before joining the FTA Utilisation team in February as an account manager working closely with sector teams and OGDs.
Matthieu Foulon
Senior Policy Advisor in the Rules of Origin (RoO) team, Department for Business and Trade (DBT)
Matthieu is a Senior Policy Advisor and has recently been appointed as the Chapter Lead, working on the Rules of Origin for CPTPP. Matthieu is also the Deputy Chapter Lead on Rules of Origin negotiations with Canada. Matthieu's team are responsible for leading the policy development and negotiation of Free Trade Agreement origin rules.
Before joining DBT, Matthieu previously worked in the aerospace industry and completed a PhD in International Trade at the University of York.
